Anyway, I had no other story to tell, only this. Please read if you have any idea whos love story is this. Enjoy reading! Welcome comments and free to edit also. Thanks for your cooperation mga kahigalaan ko sa buhat! This the short story: The Unexpected By Maria Vilma P. Dumoran Born 1970, San Isidro, Leyte, Philippines. Emma and Jamie Lorey met at the Redemptorist Church for the choir practice in March 1997. Kooky tells the story. Emma has been working in a newspaper company as an assistant librarian for 7 years. She was also taking a post graduate course in the school nearby her office. She had friends Etta, Kooky, Joey, and Larry. On Thursdays she goes to the choir practice because she was a member of the choir in the Cebu Cathedral Church. This was her passion as a cantor in the church. One day, during their practice Emma with all the members of the choir were chatting. The other member of the choir named Harry teased Emma and introduced to her a new member named Jamie. Emma was the PR officer of the organisation. Emma welcomed Jamie like any new acquaintance, and went on to continue chatting with her other friends from the choir. Emma loved singing, and her friends admired her voice so much. Shortly after that, Emma stopped attending the practice because she was very busy with her post-graduate course in school. In 1997, Emma’s friend Joey rang her to check if she could come back to the choir practice. Joey was very excited to tell Emma that that there was a new member who was very good in base. (Emma learned later that Joey was referring to Jamie. Like Emma, Jamie also went offline from the choir for some time, and then came back. Hence, Joey thought he was a new member.) Back to the choir, Emma was standing beside the musical organ and it was a great point for her to notice the coming and going of the rest of the members of the choir. At this time Jamie started to gain Emma’s interest. Without Jamie’s knowledge, Emma was keeping a close look at him. The front row of basses including Jamie, rarely get free time to break their concentration to pay attention to what might be going on behind them. Jamie was unaware that it was him the rest of the choir talked about, and they wanted Emma and Jamie to cross their paths and be good partners someday. The first time they really talked was at a religious retreat in December, following a series of practices and masses at the Redemptorist Church. They were outside the retreat house, where most good conversations happen. Jamie held Emma’s hand and did a palm reading. He asked some investigative questions to Emma, “You went to San Carlos University, right? Hmm…” Then they moved on the other room to join in the singing of carols, as if they hadn’t been singing all week… A friend of Emma from the base section came swiftly up and said, “Did I see the right or did the gentleman just come to talk to you?” “Maybe,” Emma said, and walked outside with a grin that told it all. Their first “date” was at the simple restaurant named Brutos. Jamie, in his simple and fresh outfit, stopped to touch Emma’s hair and she thought to herself, “This is it?” He whispered and said, “you stole my heart.” Later in a bike in the parking lot, they spent the wee hours of the evening talking about everything--about their families and college days, of singing at the churches to their common faith of grace and thankfulness. Six months passed, a conflict came to their relationship. Jamie wanted to study law in another city where he could serve his foster father also. It was good for the meantime. They sent letters every now and then to make the relationship blossom. Emma felt lonely for some time. She reminisces the moments when Jamie was in her side always. It gives her courage when someone she loves is always at her side and held her hand firmly. The phone rang early in the morning, Emma answered the phone, Jamie was on the other line. They talked so much and expressed their emotions well. Jamie made Emma aware of his feelings but his courage left him in midway. Something came up and for Jamie it was his calling. Jamie went home and explained everything to Emma. Jamie wanted to be in the seminary. Jamie felt sorry for Emma and proposed to a have six month call off just for Jamie to discern. Emma can’t accept that. She was very depressed. Emma couldn’t concentrate in her work anymore. She made many absences from her work and decided to take a leave while she was in distress. Emma went home to her hometown. Emma composed letters for Jamie without sending them. Emma’s Mum was worried about her. Her Mum diverted her attention so she could forget Jamie. Two months of Jamie’s discernment, something came up on Emma’s mind. She went to another town nearby and rang the church where Jamie stayed. Emma looked for Jamie and they talked. Emma told Jamie that I will be there on Monday. Jamie can’t say anything but put down the phone. Emma decided to go to the city where Jamie resided and wanted to clear up everything with him. They were on the boulevard. It was cold and breezy afternoon. Emma broke down into tears. Jamie consoled her and decided to continue to blossom their love together. Three years later they tied the knot. Enveloped by their CVC choir family, they were able to share the sound of the choir with grandparents and family who otherwise may never have had the chance to witness the reason they found each other and the testament of the choir’s commitment to each other. In three short years, they have been to other weddings and stood beside friends at funerals. They have celebrated births and consoled those who have lost their jobs. This choir is a family and choral music brings out the best in them. It allows Emma to be modest and kind. It allows Jamie to be confident and safe. It allows them, while they are busy with chores and the chaos of everyday life, moments of music in which they can catch each other’s eye, smile and nod slowly, communicating with a smug look and maybe a tear every now and then. Emma and Jamie had their first child in May 2005.
