My current body of paintings, Habitat, brings patients in wildlife hospitals, rehab, and farm sanctuaries into abandoned human environments (Chernobyl, derelict roads, architectural ruins, etc). I saw the documentary about thriving wildlife populations in the abandoned city of Pripyat post-Chernobyl disaster, years ago. It stayed with me. Daily, I am acutely aware of the suffering of animals due to habitat loss and human cruelty and ignorance. In these paintings, I make safe places for animals and create visual queries about the significance of habitat.
