My current project could be classified as Yooper Marine Engineering. The following photos depict the building of the first support crib; number one in the series of four cribs which will, when completed, support the 120 ft dock servicing the RipTide Ride tour boat. I took this project on because A. Tim is my best friend and I really enjoy helping him out, B. I enjoy the challenge of building stuff no one else wants to do, C. I enjoy building under adverse conditions (not really but it does sound good). D. I always wanted to work on the railroad and this is about as close as I’m ever going to get. The photos also hammer home how quickly Lake Superior weather changes. The snowy pictures taken Nov. 10th, just as the first winter storm of the season rolled into Munising Bay. The biggest challenge of the project was the logistics of moving 75 tons of rock, 15 tons of timber, support equipment and tools down the 40 foot embankment to the water level. To accomplish that portion of the job I devised and fabricated a dump cart that rides on steel rails.
