My current work has taken me to public primary schools in Enugu, - TopicsExpress

My current work has taken me to public primary schools in Enugu, Nigeria. Yesterday, I was in a meeting with a school administrator and two teachers walked in. They looked despondent. They had come to ask for textbooks for children in their school. While pleading for textbooks, they enumerated the varied problems they were experiencing in carrying out their duties . Having grown up in Enugu, I am quite aware of the state of public school education especially primary schools. In some schools, there are no desks, blackboards are decaying, and teachers are poorly trained. Because these schools are mostly patronized by the poor and maids from rich households, pencils are a luxury and tacky sandals and torn uniforms are the order of the day. How children are able to learn under these conditions is mind boggling. But you can make a difference! By supporting the Back 2 School Project by the Enyi Foundation for Community Development, you may be giving the next Philip Emegwali or Ngozi okonjo-Iwuala a chance.
