My dad is a do it yourself kind of man. He created the floor plan - TopicsExpress

My dad is a do it yourself kind of man. He created the floor plan for the house I grew up in. And he picked his own construction workers to help him build our home. With this do it yourself attitude, my dad knew the value of putting his children to work. We lived on a hobby farm growing up, in Hillsboro, Oregon a city outside of Portland. As a hobby farmer, that means my dad had a career working for the State. But he had a hobby as a farmer. We lived in the country on 6 acres and we had 5 steer at all times. Steer, for your information are boy cows. We had 100 apple trees and rows of our own blue berries and raspberries. And we grew our own vegetables, like calaflouer and potatoes. In this way we picked our own produce, to eat. We heated our house with a fireplace. And we collected our own firewood, piling it into boxes. We had a pet dog and a pet cat, and a pet bird. Life was good. Life is still good. This is a journal entry during those days. In my own words I hope reading part of the life my dad created for us articulates the love that my dad has. I hope it reflects the good life that dad tried to create. November 12, 1999 As I sit here, my back facing the fence, our cows are all gathered around me. I suspect they are waiting for food. We have always had cows, all the time I’ve been alive. My dad uses it as an extra source of income, by making money off their meat. I am now on the other side of the field across from where our tree house is. We have an old swing out here that we used to use. A tree fell ontop of it about two or three years ago though, so we haven’t used it since. My dad tied a long rope to the top of a tree and at the bottom connected the rope to opposite sides of a board. The swing is still here hanging, but another tree fell ontop of it, so like I said, we can;’t use it anymore. We used to get on the swing and our parents would push us as high as they could. They would push us out into the forest on the swing so you felt like you were going to fly out into the forest, but then suddenly you came back. While I was collecting [fire] wood my mom called out the door and reported that our cows had escaped from their pasture, and were wandering in their backyard. I helped my dad get the cows back to their designated place. End of Journal Entry I feel like one attribute I have developed from the way my dad raised me is that I feel responsible for doing work, myself. If I dont do it, it wont get done is kind of how I feel. Delegation I am learning is important, too. Happy Fathers Day! Have you called your dad today, yet? You owe your father your life. I appreciate this father-daughter moment: https://youtube/watch?v=SbgY9A3gnn4
