My dad wasnt born Jewish. He STILL isnt Jewish. But when he married my mom, he agreed that they would create a Jewish home together. And they did. We went to shul. We kept Kosher-ish. We celebrated Hanukkah only, with nary a pine needle from a xmas tree to be found.... His family respected it. My moms family embraced it. And now, here I am, not only living Jewishly, but in our ancestral Jewish homeland raising kids who speak in Hebrew and have waaaaay more Hutzpah than Ill ever have, in a world that measures time by the Jewish holiday cycles.... And my dad? He still Insists we say the motzei before breaking bread and when he visits me 3x a year, he steps out of customs at Ben Gurion airport bellowing the Israeli national anthem. So this begs the question: Why do we look at intermarriage as marrying out, instead of marrying IN?
