My daughter (3rd grade) just brought some pretty easy math - TopicsExpress

My daughter (3rd grade) just brought some pretty easy math problems to me for her homework...things like 496-87=? They want her to provide an answer then gave a space to work whatever common core bullshit solution on how she arrived at the answer. I tried looking at her grid and hash marks and couldnt make anything of it...it reminded me of that 4 squared grid that used car salesman use to screw you out of a fair deal by focusing on the monthly payment and not the price of the vehicle or the percentage of the loan. So I showed her the old school way to do it, the way I learned, take away one from the previous number when trying to subtract a large number from a small number, etc. Ill be sure to leave a note for her teacher that the old school method is the proper method.
