My daughter Stephanie Hazeem just wrote this poem about our dog Belle Hazeem who we put to sleep on Nov 2nd. WOW!! Shadows I see shadows Images of myself cuddling a puppy Holding a door open to let you out Prances through the meadow Scaring up finches Swimming through cold water Shaking wet doggie fur Rubbing up against my leg I still see you curled up In the corner Running through the back yard Your tail wagging merrily I see holograms of the past Still living in our home I hear echos of your bark Snarling at the neighbors Dobbie as it passes I hear the clink, clink, clink, of your collar Your thumping as you scratch your side The suction of your nose under my door First thing in the morning The splashing of your paws paddling through the water The swishing of the grass as your run through it The rustling as you dart through the bushes Chasing squirrels I still hear you lumbering around the house Looking for us…. The faintness of smells still linger You smell like corn chips when I put My face to your neck the stench of wet fur Filling the car Filling the house The warm wrapping aroma of Chicken broth soaking in your dinner Giblets Carrots Peas Doggie treats Still fill our home I still feel you Pressing against me Stepping on my foot Choosing to lay in the hall way… I step over your soul I go out back and leave the door open A little longer But not like when you were old and gray I hear your puppy spirit running laps around the living room Your sand paper tongue licking my hand Your eye begging to play I still feel your pleading stare… How long will you stay? Forever… I hope… As long as you are here I’ll still see your shadows I will still hear your bark I will see you in the meadow And I will hold the door open a little longer So you can walk with me
