My daughter is competing in a culinary arts section of the Muslim - TopicsExpress

My daughter is competing in a culinary arts section of the Muslim Interscholastic Tournament. The topic for all submissions this year is Sincerity, Inner reflection outer evidence. We have the general design of the cake somewhat figured out but last year the cake recipe I had didnt work out at all well when my daughter tried to make it herself. Last years submission (pictured below) for the topic of generosity won the bronze (should have been silver but one judge added her scores incorrectly and it wasnt caught before the awards but since silver wouldnt have taken her to the nationals we let it go) She lost the most marks for taste and texture. The recipe has to work equally well both for cupcakes (for the judges to taste) and for the cake which is sold for charity after the event. It has to be easy enough that a teenager can reproduce it herself. I would really appreciate any suggestions for recipes or even just a recipe. I dont care what the flavor is as long as its not too exotic that a judge might knock points off just because they dont like it. Chocolate, golden, vanilla, coconut... I will probably help her to make several cakes to take to school and use her friends as guinea pigs to see what turns out to be the most popular so the more recipes the merrier after all we have until march break to make the final cake. Lots of Thanks in advance :O)
