My daughter was with us for the last three months, doing her internship. Today, she left for her college to finish the balance of her two semesters. At one level the event was routine, connected world, virtual meetings, video chats, Instagram, iPhone, .... You are almost there, always all the time. But at a deeper level, it was all about growing up, letting go, evolving, maturing, stepping aside, watching growth, love and bonding. This is what happened at the airport. She finally said "Papa, chill" I Could manage to nod my head And say " I will" Tears were welling up in my eyes The lump in the throat getting bigger I was determined not to cry But my mind was there - all to defy She picked up her luggage Put in the trolley, Checked her wallet, Counted the two pieces of luggage once again Waved and once again said “Papa, chill” This time I could only nod my head She turned her back She started pushing her trolley Towards the entry to Departure And then In a moment, she abandoned her trolley Spun around and came running Hugged me with all her force This time, admist tears Rolling down from my cheeks I managed to croak “ Kriti, chill” Her arms were still around my neck Face deep buried in my chest My tears were drenching her head With immense act of courage I managed to say “Chalo, getting late” She opened her eyes Tears rolling down her cheeks Patted me on my face Wiped my tears and nodded Probably trying to say once again “Papa, chill yaar” She turned around Rushed to her abandoned trolley And before I could take three breaths She vanished into the crowd. Girl go and conquer the world Realise your dreams I will always “ chill” But tell me what this word means...
