My daughters 6, about to be 7. Like many things I see parenting a little different. I like to allow her to express herself. The reason I bring this up is because she has been starting to want, and starting get into makeup. Normally, in this situation, the father part of my thought process says shes too young. Or boys will think shes older. However, again, I am not like every parent. Regardless of the fact that I dont think she should have to suffer for societies views on women, age, and make up. Theres also again the part about how I feel she should be able to be herself and express herself. She is her own person and she has to learn and have the right to learn who she is. So with that said, someone I know recently gave Gabby a bag full of make up. Since then every day she tends to wear it in some kind of crazy fashion. One day her whole face was pink, different shades but all pink. The next, part blue, sometimes it looks normal, others not so much. I feel this is acceptable, especially since as a child I wore make up. And especially because I feel, she is simply starting to have the first bit of actual control over who she is, express that, and control what she feels she should look like. Shes learning what she likes about Gabby, about herself. And Id like to think that may be more important that what other people may feel or what is Normal about girls and make up. -Jester
