My day #1 of The Facebook #ArtChain, #ArtJewelryChallenge - TopicsExpress

My day #1 of The Facebook #ArtChain, #ArtJewelryChallenge initiated by the Donna Greenberg in the hope of capturing the diversity of what is happening from around the world in art jewelry. The rules are simple: post one of your pieces, per day over 5 days and nominate another artist each day to continue this challenge. Thank you Kathleen McCabe-Elsey, for nominating me! Real surprising... :-)............................................................ I do not often create simple necklaces and when I do, I make it for myself or for friends birthdays or for friends, just to say thanks for being friend. Most of the trade beads I buy in Morocco by kilos and much of these are broken or badly shipped. Around 10 years ago I started to rework those beads, usually in round or oval shapes (and use them for the necklaces), and then I began to ground new Chinese chevrons and chevron canes into beads, often in a more uncommon shape. I will show some during the next days of the challenge........................................................................... This necklace: Braided leather from Mauritania....I added small agate Talhakimt or Tanfouk pendants (made in Idar-Oberstein, Germany), Venetian Millefiori glass beads w/composite murrines, ground into ovals from shipped beads, Venetian 6-layer chevrons, cut and ground from old cane and a 6-layer Venetian chevron in center, from the 1950´s, ground to a drop shape. Not to forget...: I nominate Fouzi Mghatete, from Marrakech, who is doing excellent work in traditional North African jewelry!
