My dear Aloke Kumar, Kalyan Biswas, Satyasri Ukil, You are making a serious mistake by highlighting the plight of the Dongra Kondhs. Do you know what will happen when the venerable chief minister of Gujarat, Superman Narendra Modi becomes Prime Minister of India? He will call in his crack team of IB and Police officers with some loyal Black Cat Commandos to bring up the rear and will ask: “Who are these Dongra Kondhs? Are these human beings? How can they stop development of our great motherland, Akhand Bharat? Remove them, eliminate them just as we eliminated the troublesome Muslims in Gujarat. Let there be development.” Remember he is the most efficient administrator that Indian politics has ever seen. Lo and behold, the Dongra Kondhs will be eliminated and soon glistening aluminum mines and plants will come up in their lands. There will be lot of employment generation. The Indian economic growth rate will jump up to 10% per year. NaMo will be featured on the cover of Time Magazine as India’s most progressive Prime Minister ever. All those who had voted for him and rooted for him as India’s next Prime Minister will feel smugly vindicated. “He has shed blood for India’s development. This was sorely needed,” they will say in wise agreement. Soon, in a few years time, that hapless anthropologist, who had heard that a people called Dongra Khonds once lived here in these Niyamgiri Hills, will vainly search for their traces. After a search for years together, the anthropologist will realize that the unrelenting march of progress of Indian development has made his search quite futile. He will put in his papers as an anthropologist and will join Vedanta as the research scholar who discovered modernity while searching for the past. Modernity will be celebrated and the Vedanta honchos after much thought and on the advice of their PR managers who will point out how like the Apaches, Cherokees or Iroquois in the US were eliminated and yet commemorated with various memorials here and there, will decide that they too should erect a memorial to the Dongra Kondhs. A memorial to the Kondhs will duly come up. On July 28, 2017, India’s greatest ever Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil the memorial to the Dongra Khonds with the words “We must always remember their contribution to and their martyrdom for the cause of development of Akhand Bharat. Heil the Khonds!” The entire one million congregation that had converged at the site of the martyrdom of the Khonds will rise on their feet and say “Heil the Khonds!” Peace will prevail in the land of the Khonds and top economists like Jagdish Bhagwat and Arvind Panagariya will make millions of dollars writing innumerable articles in some of the top economic journals of the world and will even publish several books by top notch academic publishers on how Superman NaMo had brought great development and growth to the poverty-stricken underdeveloped country once known as India! Then all will say in unison “Heil Akhand Bharat!” Interestingly, then there will neither be any poor people, nor any Khonds, nor liberal leftists or even pseudo-sickularists, or even members of the Con party to even meekly say that an entire population was wiped out to achieve this development. “Shut up, you morons! We have achieved Development! And if you speak another word, you too will become history,” will be the warning to any remaining dissidents. Great development and great silence will reign in the country once known as India!
