My dear friend encouraged me to take one of these new fashionable work out classes in the city -- so, I went with an open mind even though Ive never been impressed with the ones Ive done previously mostly because they do not work in sync with the body and therefore, in the end, despite the torture that promises to result in a beautiful body (according to our upside down inside out culture of beauty), these work outs actually just accelerate the aging process. Why? Because they increase contraction in the body. I know many people will disagree with me and swear by crunch and torture but thats because they are only looking at the stress and growth of the muscle, not the holistic physical experience. This class which I wont name by name but will give you the hint by their tagline: If cardio, weight training and Pilates had a baby it would be XXX. Viola. Well, I energetically bounded up the 4 flights of stairs to the studio hopeful that maybe this would be a bright light to mix into my athletic routine (I consider myself an athlete and enjoy the pedigree of being the daughter of a heavy weight champion boxer). In short, I knew within the first 5 minutes that this was just another one of those crunch and torture classes just dressed up in a new outfit but stayed thinking I would just get through the class and simply not return. About 25 minutes in I realized that was the wrong move. I finally had to listen to what my body truly knew and was gently communicating to me. Im no quitter. Trust me, my body and I like nothing more than to play at edge of its power and potential. However, I knew these moves were not for my highest physical good. I quietly and politely ducked out. Okay, Rule #1: do not take classes by instructors who are not the embodiment of what they teach (same goes for health coaches). Not a single one of the 20 or so participants embodied anything I would like to see my body morph into or reflect. Not being mean here -- but if it works it should show. For all the torture, youd want to see something flippin fantastic. (But, if one is not clean celled, all the physical exertion in the world will not make the body long and lean). Rule #2: While Im all for different strokes for different folks the body will age at an accelerated pace if you work against it rather than with it. If you wish to elongate your body and have beautiful tone, that happens from within. Remove the gas pressure through the awaken and release technique of deep tissue cleansing and you wont have to do any of that crunch and torture nonsense. Youll have a better physique by just moving through life. Yes, indeed - the human body was designed to move -- and move a lot but in gracious flow! We must move the way we think and the way we feel -- all must be expansive, gracious, empowered. These classes, to be brutally direct, reflect the thinking and feeling of our culture. Hopping on my bike...peace, wheels and happy cells!
