My dear friends, received a beautiful email from a very dear friend, Aloka, who had received the beautiful message from her beloved sister, Nivedita. :) All three of us live in the United States, but our families and extended families, come from the city of Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta), which is the Capital of the State of West Bengal, India. :) Yes, Kolkata is my home town too, where I grew up and got married, before I left the city and country behind, way back in 1991. I never saw this festival as a religious festival, but a rather symbolic one. The words of my friends sister, Nivedita, bring back nostalgic memories and I miss my loved ones in Kolkata, esp. at this time of the year. Kolkata is beautiful at this time of the year. I will let you read the the simple but excellent explanation of this aspect of our Bengali culture, which I feel I want to share with you. :) Hope you enjoy the video too, the song sung by the cherished, treasured and loved Bengali singer, Dwijen Mukherjee, in his unforgettable voice.
