My dearest friend on Earth, Pedro Buford, passed away last night. He was a wonderful friend and brother in the Lord, and a fine musician. He played acoustic guitar, piano keyboards, and flute as well as any studio session player ever could, and was a great singer. He was born near New York City on October 20, 1942 and raised in Harlem, New York. He was a vocalist member of a doo-wop group called The Viceroys in the early 1960s. They had one hit record in 1963 titled My Heart. He was a member of a psychedelic hippie band from New York called Salvation from 1967 to 1969, and they had a couple of albums released on ABC Records in 1968-69. Oddly, they only became successful after they relocated to San Francisco. He became a born-again Christian in October 1969, and I met him at a Christian commune in Garden Grove, California called The House of Christian Love in September 1970 when I came to live there. In 1971, he started up a new Christian Country Rock band with our friend and brother Oden Fong, and a guy named Wade Link. In 1974, Wade was in a near-fatal accident and was replaced by Lewis McVay, and they added bass guitarist Darrell Cook and drummer John Mehler to the mix in the studio for their hit CCM (Christian Contemporary Music) album SAIL ON SAILOR in 1975, with cover artwork by the famous artist Rick Griffin. Heres a song which pretty much describes the bands fun-loving approach to Christian gospel music, a real rockin number. For Pedro. Mustard Seed Faith perform The Lighter Side of Darkness from their excellent album SAIL ON SAILOR, Maranatha! Music, 1975. Oden Fong on lead vocals, Pedro on piano, Lewis McVay on guitar, with John Mehler on drums. https://youtube/watch?v=2_d7wXM-gjg
