My debit card at Chase has been compromised. Heres what to expect - TopicsExpress

My debit card at Chase has been compromised. Heres what to expect if it happens to you: First of all, a transaction showed up on my account that I could not explain. I tried to contact the people in the description line. There was a website and a phone number in my account information. I was told to give them my debit card number in order to cancel the membership, which I was unaware of having. I refused, and asked what the transaction was for. Once again, they said they could not help me unless I give them my account number. Again, I refused and alerted the bank of a fraudulent charge to my account. What happens now is my debit card has been cancelled, meaning I cannot use it till I get a new, reissued one in a week or so. I can go into the branch today and get a temporary card, which I will probably do. Any valid accounts I have, bill paying sites, etc., will have to be updated with my new card information. I have used my debit card online for paying bills, purchasing items, etc. for several years without problems, because Ive been careful what websites I visit and made sure my Internet Security was up to date concerning SSL connections and site verification. This is the very first time Ive had something like this happen, but Ive heard of others experiencing the same type of thing. My thanks to Chase for investigating this issue and removing the questioned transaction. I will be even more careful about online transactions, etc. from now on.
