My defense of Israel as a nation is in no way an endorsement of the lives lost in Palestine... The unfortunate truth is that many of the civilians killed in Gaza (as well as in the West Bank) were willingly standing in as human shields for Hamas... Unfortunate, because they have been brainwashed to believe that the Jews are evil, and that they must be exterminated at all costs... You know as well as I do that to ensure the preservation of civilian lives, you need to have a clear line of sight on your target, free from civilians in the foreground and background... Hamas and their civilian shields make that impossible... Your alternative then becomes to engage the enemy and hope for minimal collateral damage, or to ultimately surrender... To imply that the IDF indiscriminately targets both militants and civilians (including unarmed women and children) is asinine... Or to suggest that they simply dont care about civilian casualties is a total underestimation of the extent of the moral dilemma...
