My [disturbing] question of the day... Im sure we are all well - TopicsExpress

My [disturbing] question of the day... Im sure we are all well familiar with internet silliness, but what happens if this kind of attitude/behavior spills over into decision making in real life? What is the result, say, on a town when people act upon emotion rather than fact? A recent exchange I ended up party to: Jane Doe puts up a post with a technical error. John Doe notes the error. Jane Doe, rather than simply saying Oh! Thanks, John Doe!, berates him for being negative. Then it escalates into full blown insanity, with numerous parties involved. Accusations of negativity fly [in an extremely negative fashion]. Accusers refuse to look at the simple error that started the melee. So, here we have what? Ego overriding common sense? Good intentions turned to bad result? Now apply that to decision-making for the town. Does this happen? Do you do this? Does your friend? Your neighbor? What is the ultimate result of this kind of decision making?
