My email I sent to DISD Chief Miller, Adam Medrano and Miguel - TopicsExpress

My email I sent to DISD Chief Miller, Adam Medrano and Miguel Solis about the safety issues at Spence Middle School. I wanted him to know I appreciated his efforts and I understand the difficulties he has spreading his staff around. Dear Chief Miller, I wanted to send you this note to thank you for the time, energy and attention you have given to the safety of the children leaving school at the close of the school day. Everything is running smoothly now and the children are safe. I realize there is a strain on your manpower to assist in this problem and you have many other things you need your officers to attend to. Hopefully things will work out somehow and you will be able to direct your officers back to other areas you need them at also. As the school year progresses I realize things get more hectic and your officers are needed more than ever. If the bus drivers continue to put out their stop sign arms while loading the children that will help a lot and possibly free up your officers. I really dont know. I suppose time will tell. I realize people will continue to run the stop arms, which is one of the things I complained about last year, but maybe once they get a ticket or two they will realize they are supposed to stop and they will stop doing it. Also the presence of a Dallas motorcycle police officer with a radar gun would slow people down and possibly help free up some of your officers. As we discussed you said you would put in a request to have one-way signs put up making Carroll Avenue between Capitol Avenue and Belmont Avenue a one-way street during school pick up and drop off hours. I certainly believe that would help. As you suggested, I also put in a request for the one-way stop signs. I also asked Miguel Solis and Adam Medrano to put in a request for those one-way signs also. As you know they are school superstars and truly care about the students not only in their education but also in their safety. Hopefully with all of these request it will get done. I also put in a request to have a stop sign put on Carroll Avenue at the intersection of Carroll Avenue and Belmont Avenue. If a stop sign was put there that would help control the speed issues. If people had to stop at the stop sign they would not have enough time to gain speed through the school zone. Possibly if yourself, Miguel and Adam put in a request for those stop signs it would help. The ultimate goal is for the safety of the children arriving and leaving school. I believe this can be accomplished in a manner that works, keeps the children safe and satisfies everyone. Again, thank you for all your effort, energy and desire to keep the children safe. Yours truly, Carl Smith
