My email and response to Purina regarding feeding Sow & Pig vs. Mazuri Mini Pig... what I wrote: A friend spoke with Beverly yesterday regarding the difference between Mazuri Mini Pig Feed and Purina Sow & Pig in regards to a Mini Pigs Diet. She was informed by Beverly that feeding the Purina Sow & Pig to Mini Pigs will cause health issues. How? Her response: Thanks for your email. I remember speaking to a customer yesterday about the health concerns of feeding our Purina Sow & Pig instead of the Mazuri Mini Pig diets. The concern is excessive weight gain. Recapping the conversation, I mentioned to her the sow and pig diets are formulated to meet the needs of a breeding or growing animal. These products will have more energy than what a mini pig requires and the mini pig will tend to gain weight much quicker while being fed these products. See below the information from Dr. Liz Koutsos, our director, regarding this same inquiry from another Mini pig owner: This is not going to be a good diet for his mature pig. It is designed for growing and breeding animals for meat production. His mature pig needs lower protein and higher fiber and more vitamin enrichment to support a long, healthy life. Mazuri Mini Pig Elder is the only diet that we have that fits the bill.
