My email of 3 December 2014: Goodday Alderman Smith, At the Public Meeting on 27 October 2014, with Premier Helen Zille and the Speaker, Mr Dirk Smit present, you advised me that you will look into the End Points of the Taxi Routes for the Blouberg Area. I requested if I may remind you to supply me with your findings, and you advised that you will be getting back to me within the next couple of days. Sadly, I have not had a response from you and therefore I am writing to you. Just to jog your memory wrt the purpose of this information: I asked why the Routes End Points have changed for the Blouberg Area. With the Citys Roll-out of the My Citi Bus Services, the agreement was that half of the DTAs (Du Noon Taxi Association) 120 Operating Taxis would be surrendered in April 2014 (which I believe was done) and the other half were to be surrendered by October 2014. Since the Buy-out in April 2014 more Taxis than ever before had taken over the Blouberg Corridor, as the Route were no longer defended by the DTA. The burning question was: Why are all the Taxis whos Routes ended at the Postsdam Interchange/Taxi Rank now extended to the Blouberg Corridor and beyond? Why do they not stick to their end point as per their specified Routes (which is Potsdam)? And who gave permission for this Route to be extended beyond the prescribed route? Lastly, please be so kind to advise if the Law had been changed wrt the Mandatory Route Markers to be displayed on the back and front of the taxis? It is my understanding that the display of such Route Marker Sticker is MANDATORY by Law, under the Conditions of the Permits issued. Therefore, I further understand, that a vehicle (in this case a Taxi) can only be impounded if: 1) it Contravenes the Conditions of the Permits, and 2) if the vehicle is off the designated Route? Both my questions above fall in the two categories listed, for that reason I honestly dont understand the constant increase of Taxis in our Area? Please be so kind to provide me with Feedback (as promised), as all I am trying to do is understand for how much longer the Table View Residents have to endure these Lawless Rogues in our Area.
