My email to C of C Housing: This is a huge screw up. My daughter and one other suite mate did everything right. They pre-selected their rooms according to the online floor plan on the housing website months ago. We moved Lyndsey in last Sunday and I immediately noticed that the rooms were not properly identified...being exactly reversed from the online floor plan. Based on the floor plan, she moved into the room that was shown as 204B, though it was labeled 204C in the suite. I tried to deal with it that day but no staff was qualified to make a decision (undergrad volunteers). My daughter is a rising junior and has been actively involved in rush all week with her sorority, today being bid day. We started getting calls today around 2:00 about this situation and there was nothing any of us could do as we had prior obligations at Bishop England where my son is in school. As I understand, the RA staff has threatened all of the girls with fines if they do not get this straight. Personally, I will gladly pay the fines for the entire suite but this is an institutional mistake. God forbid there were to be a fire in that suite that destroyed all identifying evidence of the rooms. All I, the fire department and other officials would be able to rely on would be the floor plan which clearly identifies each room number. I trust you understand my concern. So the argument from the RAs about legal and security issues does not go too far in this case. Our family heritage at the college spans some 60 years. To be let down yet again by the college is unfortunate. I will call you in the morning but I do plan on coming down to speak with Housing to clear this up.
