My entire news feed is Ebola in NYC! Ebola in NYC! Calm down please. The doctor self isolated as soon as symptoms were observable, and its only when symptoms are present that the infected person is contagious. Ebola is an incredibly deadly disease, but its ravaging of parts of Africa is not due entirely to it being contagious. These places where Ebola is spreading (no, America does NOT count) have no running water or latex gloves, which make sterilization damn near impossible. This is America, we have some of the best medical facilities, and latex gloves. We learned our lesson when the nurse in Texas breached protocol, all NY hospitals have been prepped for ebola, and this doctor is already in isolation. The global response to this outbreak in West Africa has been poor, and thats why ebola is still spreading. Last thing, if we are going to have a global economy, and globalization, then we cant just close the doors when shit hits the fan. Its 2014, a virus threat to any one human population is a virus threat to the entire human population. As the video says, making the ebola virus about America does an injustice to us, and to the places that are actually affected by this disease.
