My episode in real sports history. The most tragic defeat in Jazz - TopicsExpress

My episode in real sports history. The most tragic defeat in Jazz history was Michael Jordans shot to defeat the Jazz 87-86 in the 1998 playoffs. The Jazz, though trailing 3-2 in the series, had the Bulls on the ropes. Pippens back was bothering him limiting him to 26 minutes in Game 6 and just eight points. A Jazz victory in game six would probably lead to a game seven victory as legend goes, Pippen was done. But the real history is how much grief Malone took for this particular loss and the Jazz playoff woes against the Bulls. Jordan scored 45 points and Tony Kukoc scored 15, the only two Bulls in double figures. But the Jazz were led by Karl Malone who scored 31 on 11-of-19 shooting (Jordan shot 15-for-35 but went 12-for-15 from the line). But I was shocked to find out just how poorly John Stockton played in that game. He was 4-of-10 from field for just 10 points. He committed four fouls. But what was more amazing was that Malone had seven assists while Stockton just had five. The second best player for the Jazz that day was Hornacek who scored 17 points with six rebounds but zero assists. Malone had 31 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. But hes always remembered for having the ball stolen though the rest of his teammates were far from stellar that game--any of them. And of course Jordans shot goes down in the annals though he missed 20 shots but of course Michael was indeed clutch with the steal and the shot and everyone knew when he stole the ball the Jazz were doomed. But most dont remember the Jazz actually got the ball back after Jordans game winner with 1.3 seconds left and Stockton actually had a decent look but his shot missed. So that is the real (instead of perceived) history of how that game went down...
