My f you of the week goes out to Quentin Tarantino. F you, - TopicsExpress

My f you of the week goes out to Quentin Tarantino. F you, Quentin. F you because youre an overrated filmmaker. Before your ass gets too sore, let this post sub as a homemade remedy, and let me break this down like Degeneration-X. Plainly, this guy isnt that great, especially these days. My main focus is his screenwriting, which is not only atrocious, but offensive to anybody in the business of writing films. Hes an arrogant prick, frankly. I cant say anything bad about Reservoir Dogs, its a good movie. Pulp Fiction was good, but people always credit the dialogue as groundbreaking. Theres these two directors named The Coen Brothers, who had clever, funny dialogue and crazy scenarios and who also came out before Tarantino. It also didnt revive John Travoltas career. That guy is talented! He wouldve come back without this schmucks casting. Jackie Brown was okay. Do you guys even know this movie? The Kill Bill films were damn good, but that script was a joke. I dare you to read more than 5 pages. And stop with the foot fetish crap, already! Uma Thurmans toes dont win Academy Awards. Deathproof...moving on. Now heres where it gets fun. Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained are like the same movie. Ridiculous fantasy period piece where the guy who plays the villain steals the show. Dicaprio doesnt get the recognition he deserves for that film. He and Christoph Waltz saved that movie. Theyre incredible actors, and to give Tarantino credit, he wrote a couple of vicious villains, which is extremely important for a movie. The better the villain, the better the movie. (i.e. Dark Knight.) Also, dont misunderstand, Basterds and Django are comedies. In no way should they receive recognition from a dramatic stand point because they are actually comedies. Good comedies at that, but still comedies. Tarantino may seem to have such a unique filmmaking process, but its actually quite routine by this point. He tells a non-linear story, cutting between past and present. You get the picture after a while. And guess what? He didnt do it first, or best. He also mixes the drama with comedy, horror with comedy, etc. But at the end of the day, this mixture of tones is uncomfortable. Its frustrating. How can you involve yourself in a film when the tones switched in such an unsubtle way? Again, Tarantino borrows from the Coens, who have made many films that mix genres successfully. I would argue with a Tarantino fan that they have invested in the 2nd place horse, because the Coens do everything Tarantino does much better. For example, No Country for Old men has plenty of jokes, but at no point do you take Anton Chigur lightly, even while choking on peanuts, or question the tone of the film. Fargo has a lot of conversational dialogue, but for some reason its way more compelling. If you watch a Tarantino film, youre guaranteed to get two things: a story that never really leaves the audience satisfied, and someones getting shot in the dick. Same old shit, Tarantino, and f you!
