My father always says he could tell when I got turned onto music when I started putting on his Sam Cooke 8 tracks. I was probably about 5. Tonight I dropped Sam in the CD player and went into the kitchen to work on the chicken carcass pseudo pozole I wanted to have ready for BDs late arrival from a long work week in the city. Mom! Come dance with me! I heard from the living room. I put everything down and joined her. We danced for 17 tracks, laughing and blowing right past bedtime, right past you must be in pajamas before Papa arrives. By the time BD did arrive, Eleanor was stripped down to a bathing suit and her glitter dress shoes and Sam was still singing. My heart was bursting with love for this little being that reflects my best self back at me, who inspired me stop and dance to Sam again. I made BD slow dance with me before I served him his soup. He just had to deal with that. #ThatsHowIroll #IstillKnowAllTheWords
