My father asked that I post the following medical update about my mother: I dislike sending emails and Facebook posts because of their lack of feeling. However if you see the number of names in my address book you can understand how I am unable to communications with each of you individually. For the past several years Elaine has been dealing with severe heart, lung and kidney problems. After spending 32 days in Pittsfield and Columbia Presbyterian Hospitals this past month, the doctors have determined no further medical intervention is possible. Yesterday we returned to our house in Massachusetts. Hospice will attend to her medical needs. Fortunately I have a wonderful and capable woman who will assist me with all her personal needs. Family and friends are close by for support. We have shared a wonderful and loving life for 58 years. There will me many good memories. As an added note from me, thank you all for your good wishes and prayers over the past month. Ive told her about all of them and they cheer her up. Im trying to come to terms with this slow and painful process of losing a mother. Its surreal. But my sisters and I surround her each day and tell her how much we and her grandchildren love her. And to the end she is keeping her sense of humor. I love you Mom. Thank you for all you have given me and shaped me, in life.
