My father was shopping at a CHKD thrift store in Va Beach, something he loves to do. Americans being Americans, someone asked him where he was spending Thanksgiving and my dad being my dad, he said: Im waiting for an invitation! Diana, African American, said to my part-Cherokee father whom she had never met: come to our house for Thanksgiving! Last night my dad called with the news and I asked if we could call from Thanksgiving dinner at my house in Belgium to Thanksgiving dinner at her house in Virginia. And the 21st century being what it is, Diana, or Dee as she is called, invited me to Tango. We talked last night already and set up the call for later today. She said she is making a seafood feast! We have our Schaerbeek team coming to our house for dinner tonight, most are Europeans and this is their first Thanksgiving. I love explaining Thanksgiving as a cross-cultural celebration of friendship, something Jesus loves, and something we get to do in Belgium and my father gets to do in Virginia. Im very thankful.
