My favorite Dave Boardman story is the one where he rejected me for an internship at The Seattle Times right out of college. I called him in 1990 and said he made a mistake. He agreed to meet me about "his mistake" on the internship, but still politely rejected me as an intern. I did do a stint as a news aide for The Seattle Times that summer under Lee Moriwaki. Years later, when I was a lobbyist, I had lunch with Dave Boardman at the Palace Kitchen. I informed him, laughing, that I was a lobbyist because he helped kill my journalism career. I still think Dave Boardman is a great editor and will miss him.
