My favorite animated filmmaker is Japans Hayao Miyazaki. Most of his work is epic storytelling with heart, soul, and worthwhile message. I recently watched Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind for the first time, and wow, what a great movie! Released back in 1984, it is incredible to see now how much this movie inspired later Japanese sensations like Pokemon and Final Fantasy. It is also clearly an inspiration for James Camerons Avatar... This movie is Star Wars good. Not joking. Some of Miyazakis other work I enjoy are: Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howls Moving Castle. Hes got plenty more and they are all good.
