My favorite cruise update by Artie so far: Good Evening Family & Friends~ Well, another action packed, calorie filled day here on the Royal Caribbean Grandeur of the Seas! Sadly, there was a terrible incident this morning which nearly ruined what has otherwise been an outstanding cruise! After sounding the Ships General Alarm shortly after 9:45am this morning, imagine our embarrassment when we discovered that in fact, Room Service HAD NOT forgotten our Wheat Toast with Butter with this mornings order! Thank Goodness they only had about half the lifeboats lowered before I called the Bridge to advise them that the Guest Perceived Threat Level could be lowered from Red back to Orange! The Captain was quite rude about the whole misunderstanding, but as I dont really speak Italian, I can only report that it Sounded Angry , but who knows? In any event, apparently we arrived at Coco Cay under cover of darkness last night or it could have been this morning; this State Room is like a tomb without a porthole, so Im just spitballin here. Once again, they were scheming to vamoose us off the boat under the guise of a Day at the Beach on their Private Island, blah, blah, blah......We had just finished jamming our State Room Chair into place to barricade the door, when they lured us out with the promise of an All You Can Eat Beach BBQ! Great....now WE HAVE TO GO TO THE FOOD. Ugh.......Whatever happened to service?????? Anyway, they lowered us into the Tender by port crane; I think thats how they treat the V.I.P. Passengers- ( Very Irritating Porkers ) as the Regular passengers had to hoof it via the gangplank! Talk about special!!! Off we went for the 5 minute ride to to the Lush Tropical Island Of Coco Cay...or not. Hmmmmm......personally, it reminded me of the set of Gilligans Island, but less realistic! I did see a rather ornery Green Iguana as we were arriving into the Diesel Fuel Smoke Filled Cove that serves as the port of entry to disembark onto Coco Cay. After docking, they directed us to the gangway to disembark; personally, I thought the Electric Cattle Prod was unnecessary, but that old dude with the Walker had been slowing everyone down throughout this entire cruise and I had warned Gil repeatedly TO STEP IT UP! Cest La Vie! Once we set foot on Coco Cay, like Bloated Walruses, we undulated and inched our way slowly toward the beach. The waters were that lovely Caribbean Blue youve seen in every episode of Gilligans Island! We found a nice spot on the beach, a couple of chaise lounges and beached ourselves like a couple of minke whales. ( Once those damn P.E.T.A. Do-Gooders stopped trying to Push them back in the water, theyre going to die!) and left us alone, we settled in for a lovely afternoon of grazing and wallowing. Gil decided to go for a swim in the warm, blue Caribbean waters while I stayed on the beach to defend our personal belongings and buffet booty! ( OK, I could have replaced the iPhone and Credit Card, but not those delicious Ribs!!! ) He enjoyed the lovely warm waters for a good 3 minutes before the word Shark came out of another guests mouth! Good Lord! Did a man eating Great White slip through the Shark Nets? How could an 11 Bull Shark have found his way to our little corner of paradise? Most importantly, why were a group of passengers wading TOWARD the shark, yet Gil was running for the safety of the beach??? Were there that many idiots? Gil, now ashore, ran up to me breathlessly to report multiple Shark Sightings; hence his immediate departure from the water! Upon further inquiry, it was revealed that the Shark was of the Genus Tiny, Harmless, Toothless, Goldfish Like Sharkus and likely, had there been a pack of 100, could doubtless have nibbled away the pinkie of your average 9 year old given enough time. Otherwise, the only real threat on Coco Cay was the possibility that the Buffet would run out of ribs! Now, ensconced within the safety of the beach, we sunbathed for an hour or so before re boarding the tender back to the ship. Once back on the ship, we decided, as we were already in bathing suits, to seek out a shark free zone ( which, by definition, excluded the buffet ) and headed for the main pool on deck 9 where we enjoyed swimming in the pool. ( Side Note: The pool, normally filled with many screaming kids, far more terrifying than a shark, was relatively quiet as many were still on Coco Cay) Swim Time over, we waddled over to the WindJammer Cafe for our evening feeding before that evenings festivities began. There was quite a bit on the roster. Today was 1970s Disco Day and many of the events were Disco themed. We rejoined many in our group around 7:00 pm in the Schooner Bar for a Name that Tune type contest where they would play a few notes from a famous Disco Song and your TEAM had to guess the Artist and Song Name. Well, thank God the gays arrived when we did or the Guild family MIGHT have gone down to an embarrassing defeat! Donna Summer, The Bee Gees, Diana Ross: PUHLEEEEZE- Its all in the Gay Handbook and after our appearance things improved considerably. Thereafter we enjoyed a Bon Jovi tribute band in the theatre, and later, a 70s Disco Themed Dance in the Centrum Area of the ship until about 11:00pm which was very enjoyable. We were slightly waylaid at the Park Cafe for some Tiramisu as we knew we would need the sugar boost to press the down button on the elevator to return to our State Room. The night ended on a bit of a tragic note; we arrived back at our State Room just after Midnight where we were forced to pay a $3.95 Room Service Order Late Night Delivery Fee!!! Never mind that the $80.00 worth of food we ordered was free!!! That $3.95 Hit means someone is not getting a T-Shirt~ Sorry Folks. We are at Sea all Day today and Thursday. We have again been advised that due to direction, satellite service will be intermittent. Tomorrow we are at Sea again all day before docking in Baltimore at 7:00 am Friday morning. Weve had a lovely time and will chat with everyone Friday. Weather is Here, Wish You were Beautiful! Much Love~ Artie & Gil
