My favorite period for internet music geeking was that short - TopicsExpress

My favorite period for internet music geeking was that short window of time from 2004 to 2006. Napster was long dead. Audiogalaxy just died. Limewire was a Russian roulette of trojans. There was no broadband internet and no YouTube. So we relied on that short-lived goldmine of indiepop: music blogs. My favorite music blog was Matthew Perpetuas FluxBlog. Back when stream-then-forget (i.e., low commitment) discovery was impossible, we had to choose our downloads based on 100-word blurbs about unknown songs, wait 20 minutes to finish downloading the file, and cross our fingers that weve stumbled upon something great. Annies Heartbeat was the undisputed champion of blogrock (or more accurately, blogpop). This was, and still is, the perfect pop song -- one that deserved more accolades than it received. It was catchy, concise, and it was sung by an indie-pop princess who was more than pleasing to the eyes. While music blogs are still around, they couldnt quite recreate the reach and influence they had in those three short years when blogrock reigned supreme. So heres the song that helps us remember the time when we felt our heartbeats drumming to the FluxBlog beat. #SentiSunday
