My favorite story my Dad told about being in the Army was about a very narrow escape he had one night. He had dug his fox hole and was ready to settle in for the night when this officer grabbed him and told him he needed a driver to take him to a base camp. Dad was thrilled at the prospect of a decent nights sleep and maybe even a hot meal. He went to grab his gear and the officer told him to leave it - theyd be back first thing in the morning and he was in a hurry to go. They came back the next morning and in place of his fox hole was a bombed out crater. Happy Veterans Day to all who serve!
