My fellow Chuukese, at least if we have come this far, I think we - TopicsExpress

My fellow Chuukese, at least if we have come this far, I think we can stand on our own, as you know our CPSC ( Chuuk Political Status Commission ) members suggested for us to secede from the Federation and become an independent nation after the year 2023, when the financial economic provision of the Compact of Free Association expires. By hearing and reading many comments about the movement of seceding and become a sovereign nation, many unanswered questions popped up in my small overused brain, which triggered my heart to share my own side of this. First of all, I would like to extend my sincere apologies to all our fellow honorable leaders from the National level, the State level, the Municipal level, to all traditional leaders, and to all my fellow Chuukese, if anything I might quote may offend you, FAKKUN TIROW OMUSANO ACH TIPIS. This movement is more like the ideal of a grown up son that wants to get married and run his own family. My question is, do we really fit and ready to secede the Federation and become the new Republic of Chuuk? According to the CPSC, the Republic of Chuuk is ready and locked on the ideology of independence, and therefore recommended to vote YES on March 03, 2015 during the plebiscite. By observation during the hearings, or by reading articles on the secession movement, I know most of the members knew that Chuuk IS NOT ready for independent, but what they are trying to do is to pave the way for independence after the 2023, first, the plebiscite , second, creating new constitution, third, negotiation with foreign governments and then on and on...Not a bad idea, BUT what I truly believe is, WE ARE NOT READY, UNLESS we do an OVERHAULED in all, from the National level, the State level, the Municipal level, and the PEOPLE. Change attitudes! Change the way we elected our public servants from all levels, we get used to the idea of expecting what our governments can do for us but not what we can do for our government, this old practice can triggered corruptions with our elected officials in all levels. Secondly, there is NO TRUST in most of the members, most were our leaders during the Compact I and II, which resulted in a backward economic development of our state, and were labeled corrupted leaders. Thirdly, the public have less humble time to learn and understand the basic driving force behind the secession movement, no statistics in black an white for factual supports, no educational tools to ease the minds of many, and were presented on only the PROS but not CONS of the secession movement and the ideology of independence. Why rush? We still have 9 years to go, why not do the plebiscite on what political status the majority preferred, and from there we can start working toward the goals of whatever political status the majority of our people voted for. But no matter what political status we chose but no overhauled change then it is a waste of time and money. First, lets work together as one love, one people, and one island, we need to concentrate more on issues that can able our economy to move forward, and from there we can entertain the idea of seceding from our siblings, our sister states of Yap, Kosrae and Pohnpei. Last of all, my humble apology to you all for taking up your valuable time, and for using this link as a clear picture of what we can do for our beautiful island of Chuuk... Thank you and happy new year to you all...
