My final take on Smriti Irani episode: They say that Smriti Irani is not educated enough for the job. But how do you define education?...Education is not just about school or college. Education is a process that helps you acquire knowledge and skills to face life situations... Formal education -school/college/university, etc puts a person only through a qualifying process in acquiring knowledge and skills..Not everyone needs to follow that formal education system.. One can choose alternative systems for acquiring knowledge and skills. (quote from @mediacrooks) Bill Gates, Steve Jobs dropped out of their own free will because they realised their calling lay somewhere else and a different form of learning. Smriti Irani too dropped out after school out of her own free will and chose her calling from which to learn and face life situations... Thats education. Has Smriti Irani followed her pursuits and learned the knowledge and skills to perform? Her success suggests she definitely has.. Now Narendra Modi, who himself is a high achiever (though he didnt go through formal education) saw leadership potential in Smriti during his interactions with her over last 10 years and the results she has delivered during the last three years of her stint as an RS MP from Gujarat. Modi is privy to Smritis real skills and capabilities which most of us are not privy to. But going by my past experience of 13 years, I would believe that Modi would have inducted the right person in the HRD portfolio as HRD is something he emphasised a lot during his election campaign. Moreover, I do not look upon a leader as a problem-solver, I look at him as a problem-identifier. Once the problem has been identified, any expert can give the solution; it doesnt take much effort and time. Now, whether Smriti Irani will perform as HRD minister.. that only the future will tell.. Its futile to cast aspersions on her capabilities right now. She is definitely going to be there for some time to come. Give her a year and then if she doesnt start showing results, I myself will seek her removal. PS: In 2001, when Modi was appointed, there was similar uproar all over. People said, How can an RSS pracharak with no administrative experience whatsoever even at Panchayat level, run a big state like Gujarat? Those people then didnt know that 13 years later, the same man would become the prime minister of India.
