My first article for the CLC was an attempt to clearly frame the premise of the Constitutional Libertarian. As with any premise, it will always be subject to revision. Times change and new information happens. My hope is that the Constitutional Libertarian Community will be a unifying venue for democrats and conservatives. One premise that will not change is that both the left and right ideologies have value. If I didn’t think that, The Constitutional Libertarian Community wouldn’t exist and you wouldn’t be reading this. There are people on both sides of the polarized fence that will dismiss the Libertarian as someone who wants to do away with government or someone who believes “anything goes.” A Constitutional Libertarian understands that limits, law and structure cannot be done away with and isn’t attempting to introduce anything new or radically different, instead, we wish to re-enforce the limits, law and structure of our government that are already in place. The Constitution is the original, binding contract, limiting our government and as such will serve as the foundation for the arguments we make. Imagine how much less screwed up America would be if the government couldnt constantly operate outside of the Constitution. Im not premising that the Constitution is the end all and be all of our government, but it is the outline for it and the rampant violations of it have to stop. The Constitutional amendment process is ideal for permanently reducing the rampant corruption of Congress and especially the Senate, because it requires the whole of Congress to be involved in it. Its easier for corruption to happen in the back rooms and small committees where the 600 + page Bills are written that no one reads. We need amendments that permanently limit: The legalized bribery of Congress, (lobbying) Earmarks/Pork Riders Corporations writing their own Bills Corporations being able to spend as much money as they need to, to get what they want The President’s ability to send us to and perpetually keep us at War (Hello?) And that impose *Term Limits on Congress: 12 years only, one of the possible options below: A. Two Six-year Senate terms B. Six Two-year House terms C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms Then a Bill would have to be passed imposing mandatory and heavy fines on Corporations, Congressman and Senators found to have violated the new amendments. Hit them in the wallet, it’s the only thing that works.
