My first credit card was American Express. This was back during - TopicsExpress

My first credit card was American Express. This was back during the Hoover Administration when credit cards were still made of wood. I have carried this card ever since, despite the fact that fewer and fewer merchants accept it, and the annual fee amounts to money I pay for a card I pretty much never use. A few weeks ago I went online to pay my bill. The site was experiencing difficulties. I tried again a few days later. Again with the difficulties. I went online on Friday to pay my bill to find the website had been redesigned, requiring me to sign up for online access again. Even after going through the necessary steps I still couldnt connect online. I called, and was on the phone with AmEx for about 35 minutes trying to figure things out. Finally the system accepted my info, I paid my bill and figured that was that. Today I got an announcement in the mail that since I hadnt paid my last bill on time (a balance of less than $25) I was now going to be subjected to a 27% fee for every charge accrued on the account. I am canceling my card. FTS.
