My first evil campaign is going along pretty well. It takes - TopicsExpress

My first evil campaign is going along pretty well. It takes place in the ruined and depopulated remnants of a kingdom called Aberia. The ruler of this land sought to build a great spire so that he could ascend directly to the heavens and become a god. Pharasma didnt appreciate that, so she knocked his spire down and killed him in the process. Aberia fell into total chaos, as civil war, banditry, and monsters spread throughout the kingdom. Amidst this carnage was born a tiefling who would come to be known as Margath the Unholy (pictured here). Claiming to be the very son of the demon lord Orcus himself, he rallied a massive cult in his fathers name and began his reign of terror. Margaths necromancers raised legions of undead, entire tribes of orcs accepted Orcus blessing and became semi-undead Gray orcs who served him, and portals to the Abyss were opened to bring demons who joined his dark crusade. With entire populations being slaughtered and animated by Margaths legions, it seemed that the fall of the entire continent to his power was inevitable. But then, a last alliance consisting of the followers of three gods: Iomedae, Pharasma, and Asmodeus, challenged him in the Battle of the Shining Plains. The Tripartite was eventually victorious, when the paladin-king Dorian slew Margath with a holy planar sword and bound his soul to the material plane, prohibiting it from traveling to the Abyss to become a full demon. Now, Aberia remains a wasteland, but life is slowly beginning to return there, and with it, thousands of settlers eager to reclaim the land as their own. The cult has been scattered, the undead have been mostly destroyed, the grey orcs are being hunted by the original green orcs, and nearly all of the demons have been banished. Margath lives on, but as a shadowy phantom who can only manifest on desecrated ground. He has a dozen quasits under his control which he sends on recon and messenger missions when theyre not flocking around him. They are his eyes and ears. Thats where the party comes in. Margath reaches out to find a group of evildoers who can become Orcus champions and bring about his rule once again. They are... Thrakal ObGon, Half-gray orc Scarred Witch Doctor Caeus, Tiefling Bones Oracle Shion Itami, Human Ninja Nocturni Ouhorkos, Nosferatu Dhampir Warpriest of Orcus So far, there has been no infighting. I think my players understand how fast a campaign can go to @#$%, especially an evil one, if PVP breaks out. They are exceptionally cruel and sadistic, especially because Ive had whole combat encounters (though that may be too charitable a term) between the party and NPC commoners. Thrakal grappled a peasant woman, who demanded that he unhand her, so he sliced off one of her hands and ate the fingers off in front of her. Also, they kept one of the survivors and brought him to Margath as a sacrifice. He shouted things at him that I cant write on this board, and they eventually used Murderous Command to make him commit suicide (I allowed that). They also raided a stables to get more horses, and killed an entire family save for one girl who they now wish to brainwash. Theres murderhobos...and then theres this! Next chapter, theyre going to save a female necromancer from execution and possibly recruit her, while going up against Iomedan soldiers and holy types. What do you think, folks? :)
