My first home in 1942 was at Quonset Point Naval Air Station in RI - TopicsExpress

My first home in 1942 was at Quonset Point Naval Air Station in RI where my father managed the housing for the Navy. Dad had very poor eyesight and was ineligible for military duty so unlike many war babies, I had my father with me from Day 1. When I grew up, I realized that was not the case for many families the world over - men went to war for the duration and if they did come back, some didnt see their kids for three or four years. I remember tooling around Quonset in a side car attached to my Dads Navy-issue motor scooter! After the war, we lived nearby the base and many of my friends were Navy brats. The tour of the carriers home ported there and especially the air shows by the US Navy Thunderbirds were big events in my childhood and meeting the Thuderbirds when I was about 12 promoted a hormonal rush and an interest in aviation I was told that girls couldnt be pilots but I would make a right cute little stewardess. Since I am not very handy or mechanically minded. I think that was good advice. Heres to our Armed Forces then and now and GO NAVY!!!!!
