My first role-playing game. 1988. My first role playing game - TopicsExpress

My first role-playing game. 1988. My first role playing game ever was AD&D First Edition. My much older cousin at the time, Carlos Sacré Jr., was running a personalized version of T1 Village of Hommlet for my other relatives (the game included clerics of Orlanth and Yelm, among other things). I was deemed too young to play, so I had to watch from the sidelines. I was awed by the game I was witnessing and the possibilities I saw to play a character in a real medieval fantasy world. Then a miracle happened: my brother actually got bored and stopped playing. My cousin wondered if they would stop the game right then and there; I BEGGED him to let me take over my brothers character. He finally agreed reluctantly. Magic User. 1 HP. Light Spell. A dagger. I couldnt have been happier. I explored the catacombs under Hommlet. I must have been crawling, turning around a tight passage. Then fought a skeleton in the dark, and got killed at the first hit. I was hooked. I would keep on playing for the following weeks solo with my cousin Carlos running the open world around Hommlet. I would explore, losing many a character in the process, until finally, learning bit by bit how NOT to charge a couple of ogres alone expecting victory, for instance, one of them made it to level 2. I will never forget these games as long as I live.
