My first time to view the Mercedes A45 AMG: Firstly, in case you didn’t know. The name A45 has no relative meaning to the capacity of the engine. In fact, it shares the same engine from its little brother, the A250 AMG. The 2 brothers don’t look too different either. Ok…This is awkward. No actually not. The 2-liter twin-scroll single turbo charged engine has been topped up to 355bhp at 6000rpm and 332lb. ft of torque from 2250 to 5000tpm. The one big step ahead of performance means it will comes with the 4-Matic drive system as standard from AMG. It directs its power to the front wheels by default but could sends up to 50% of its torque to the rear axle when necessary. Drives through the 7-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch gearbox, should help the car do a blistering quick 0-62mph time in 4.6secs…under launch control system dubbed ‘Race Start’ tho… I don’t have the chance to drive the car yet but there’s a few things I saw should be just enough to let the A45 to stand apart from other lesser models of the already sharp looking A-classes. Inside, it has more supportive looking Recaro seats at the front. The owner told me that the seats are actually quite comfy and looks better. Then, there’re more powerful brakes behind the light alloys from the outside. I couldn’t comment how good they are in terms of stopping but they look promising to me to stop the over 350bhp pocket rocket safely. Before I finish walking around the car I spotted the quad exit exhausts at the back. Not bad! Ha but when I look closer, the quad looking exits were actually part of the rear bumper design. Behind it the actual exhausts tail pipes are ‘only’ 2 out at both sides, like the A250 AMG. To conclude, is it worth to pay over 10 grand more from the A250 AMG for the A45? If all you want is the looks, ordering the front and rear bumper of the A45 from Mercedes or other aftermarket company such as REVOZPORT should do. I’ve heard those AMG brakes for the A45 should fit the A250 too. However, the A45 AMG is the Maddest HOT-hatch Mercedes can offer to the market and underneath the skin it certainly have loads of beefing up work and specially focused settings from AMG than other A-classes…including the A250 AMG… Last but not least, you can ask for the A45 AMG Edition 1 if it’s available to you and it will come with a “go faster” strips and a rear spoiler to improve the looks…and aero dynamic off course! …hey…rumor says the A45 Black Series might be coming up coz the testing prototype has been spotted testing at the Nurburgring. I wonder how much more power AMG can squeeze from the 2-liter 4-cyclinder engine! Thanks for reading By Cc Li
