My first year of coaching HS wrestling has brought many humbling and awesome moments. Today I experienced something I have never seen in the sport (in part because I took a 10 year hiatus). I took 3 of our Lady Panthers to a very tough 2 day Girls tournament in Napa that has 500 participants. It was really awesome to experience how California has embraced girls wrestling which I dont think Ohio has even caught up with. We have 8 girls on our team which is small compared to other teams who can field a full varsity girls team (and in some cases JV too). They are all tough as nails and so eager to learn. If I have a daughter, I would be proud and supportive if she wanted to wrestle. I am so excited for day 2 and also for the girls state meet. It is awesome to see the progression of our sport!
