(My former boss!) Republican Assembly Leader Charlie Nesbitt has received word from the Department of the U.S. Army that he has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. This medal is awarded to an officer or enlisted member of the United States Armed Forces who distinguishes himself or herself in support of operations by heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight. The operation for which Charlie is receiving this Medal occurred in November 1968, while he was serving in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot with the 57th Assault Helicopter Company, and, under fire, rescued a wounded American soldier behind enemy lines. Charlie will be presented with the Distinguished Flying Cross and an accompanying citation on Saturday, August 24th at a reunion of the 57th Assault Helicopter Company, in Batavia. This award is an incredible honor.
