My fourth legislative effort will be a resolution requesting the National Parks Service to modify the long range plan for Mammoth Cave National Park to promote more tourism and park visitation. Efforts at Mammoth Cave to demolish existing lodging, with no plan to re-construct; coupled with the ongoing efforts to close Ferry traffic at both Houchins and Mammoth Cave Ferry sites seem counter to an open and growing park population. Edmonson County and our region depend on tourism, both at the Mammoth Cave site and the Nolin Lake site to provide much needed seasonal revenue in the North half of Edmonson County. I will also work to obtain an agreement in principle for planning of a Low Water Bridge to be constructed at the current Mammoth Cave Ferry site with current Ferry operations moved to Houchins Ferry. Trail rides are an increasing activity interest for the Park. Developing periodic scenic trail ride events and associated camps or ‘chuck wagon’ stops along the routes would be another way for citizens to enjoy the beauty of our national parks and experience some of the sights our founders delighted in. I hope to search out and earn both state, federal and foundation grants for design accommodations to insure these desired opportunities do not disappear. Please share these priorities with your friends!
