My frat brother Ced Nelson has challenged me to publicly express why I love Jesus. I really appreciate that Ced! This is my response: True love is to lay down your life for someone no matter the cost. Jesus laid down his life for me at the cross. (Romans 5:6-8) 6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. If someone went and hurt one of my family members, cursed me, slandered me, beat me, spit on me, or threatened to kill me I surely would not be thinking about dying for them. But Jesus died for me when I was still in darkness, when I was his enemy and against him. This never ceases to amaze me! Nobody in their right mind will go die for their enemies, but Jesus died for me. And it did not end there, he has risen from the dead and is alive at the right hand of God today, and he will return for his church one day soon. Only when I hold to his teachings do I know the truth and am free from sin. We all have faith in something or someone whether we believe it or not. I choose to put my faith in Jesus because of the true love shown me. This among many other reasons is why I love him. Once again thanks to my brother Ced Nelson for the challenge!
