My friend Courtney Hinesley, Miss Atlanta 2015, is promoting Childrens Miracle Network Hospitals by encouraging others to make a donation to CMN of $5 or more, and share WHY you love CMN in a status with the hashtag #CMNChallenge. She challenged me, so here it goes! My cousin Edward was a premature baby born to my aunt who was suffering in her last stages of breast cancer. As I fundraised as a teen in the Miss America Organization, I learned more about the incredible importance of neo-natal care units for cases like Edward’s. Since winning Miss Georgia, I have made a visit to every CMN hospital in Georgia, and raised $25,000 for this cause that has become something I care so deeply for. At one hospital, I had a little girl tell me I was the best part of her entire day, and that same day, she had finished her last round of chemotherapy. Ive seen the hardships these families face, yet despite the adversity, each child finds a reason to smile. Thats inspiring, and thats why I love this incredible organization. At Miss America, I was honored to be named the 1st-runner up to the Miracle Maker award. This is given to the contestant who raised the second-most funds for CMN, and was accompanied by a $3,000 scholarship. That is all fine and good, but CMN is something that I will promote for many more years to come. Hopefully, LONG after I am able to receive recognition for it. This organization has helped me learn to smile amongst the hardships, to be passionate, thankful and to remember that each day really does count. I encourage each of you to donate to this worthy cause, but even more importantly, share how you have been personally impacted.
