My friend Harald is in the hospital suffering from the effects of treatment for cancer. He is without family support. I am asking for prayer for him...and that God would show me how to minister to a lonely fellow...(former colleague) who remembers how Gerrys faith carried him during his cancer battle...but who does not know his Creator himself. He calls him the Good Lord...or the Man upstairs and then often reverts to using His name as a swear word in the midst of his frustration and discomfort. This is just a habit ...like it is for millions. How do we live without the Lord and how do we die without the Lord? I am feeling useless...unqualified to preach...but go to visit in the spirit of friendship...hoping to administer hope...and gently suggest that all of us are going to reach the end of our lives...and we need to be willing to forgive and ask to be forgiven...which is possible when we give ourselves to the ONE...Jesus...who came to make a way where there is no way. Surely...the Holy Spirit can work a miracle in a heart and mind...when the body is so afflicted? This man has had a tough life...but what about Eternity? Intellectually, I could easily decide to forget the whole thing...came close at times. But Something inside me...will not let me go! I Praise God that HE has not given up on me...even when I have tried to give up on Him! My lonely and very ill friend ...like me...(sinners...human beings who have failed to get it right in this earthly life) have not earned a mansion in the heavenly realm...but the FREE GIFT...is available if we only believe in Him. Sounds simple...a six year old can grasp it...but unfortunately ...many grown ups think it is only a fairy tale. As the man in the Bible said: Yes, I DO BELIEVE...but HELP ME with my UNBELIEF!
