My friend Heidi so graciously involved me in the #ALSIceBucketChallenge. I had to accept. She also added a special Flashdance caveat, so again, I had to accept. #whatafeeling In addition, I will be donating to alsa.org in honor of several acquaintances of mine who lost close relatives to the disease. I encourage everyone else, even if not called out to take the Ice Bucket Challenge to donate any amount as well. I will admit that while I knew what Lou Gehrigs Disease was, I did not know it was ALS nor what it stood for until now. From alsa.org: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrigs Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. As far as I know, there is no cure for the disease. Heres hoping the fruits of this fantastic viral campaign will be able to change that very soon!
