My friend Jeanne Sigel requested I write a poem for the poetry box outside of the Garde Arts Center. I have received many requests as Mayor, from doing Penguin Plunges and Ice Bucket Challenges, to getting in high elevation cherry pickers to unveil murals; but writing a poem that would actually be seen and read publically was a real challenge. I am no Walt Whitman, but here is my best attempt: A Simple Spark Rain falls softly through the leaves, Passing through the swaying trees. But a spark across the sky, marks the time that they shall die. Then with the crack of thunder, the trees that sway are torn asunder. And with their dying embers are, Seen ablaze from afar. So witness this and admire, That a simple spark can start a fire. . ...
